What Did You Do Today?

That's a question I think all moms want to roll their eyes and say "what didn't I do today!"

Here is what I did today, no lie I really did all this and about ten things in between!

To the tune of 12 Days of Christmas

a trip to the grocery store
(and the gas station, dry cleaners, & dollar store)
2 horsie rides
3 meals made
(and snacks & drinks & prep for Christmas meals & cleaned up)
4 loads of laundry
5 dozen cookies
(I'm not saying how many were sampled)
6 diaper changes
7 messes cleaned
(at least!)
8 times picking up
(I think every toy & small tupperware was out at one point)
9 kisses given
(hugs too)
10 minute nap
(not nearly long enough!)
11 "no no" s issued
(at least!)
12 presents wrapped
(one made today)
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!!
So, what did you do today?

15 Months

Our little Ella Naomi is 15 months old now. I can't believe how big she is getting! She just got her 6th tooth... it's taking forever to get teeth. She's still just a little peanut, only weighing 20 lbs and is 30 3/4 in long. It's so cute to see her waddle around on these short little skinny legs! We are really enjoying seeing more and more of her personality come out. She has such a tender heart it makes discipline a challenge at times. She can't say 'sorry' yet but when you ask her to say sorry she gives you the biggest kiss through her tears. It just melts you and sure makes you forget why you were mad. Earlier this week after a rough afternoon she got a spanking and immediately started to kiss me all over my face while sobbing her heart out. Boy, I felt bad for having to spank! She is saying more and more which I absolutely love! She learned to say no and of course it's the word we hear the most... everything is "no no"!

She loves to go bye bye and will bring you her shoes, coat, and hat and your own shoes when you say lets go bye bye! She continues to adore babies. Real or dolls. They get lots of love and kisses from her. Another highlight for this month is her very first haircut!!! Gone are those long locks! New hair has been growing in and so she had these long pieces that were so scraggly so I decided it was time. Now it will all grow out even. It was such a whim... I sat her on the kitchen counter and gave a pack of fruit snacks, whipped out my scissors and snipped away. I thought I might get emotional about cutting her hair, after all it's never fallen out so it was like the last 'baby' thing about her. But surprisingly I wasn't emotional at all.

BEFORE
It's actually longer when it's straight

AFTER
Not a good shot and I also cut more the next morning

Winter

It's gonna be a long one!

Twice today Ella brought me my shoes and said, "bye bye!" Later, she was playing by the front door and looked up and saw her coat and hat hanging on the hall tree. She started crying and pointing to them. So I let her wear her hat around for a bit. But this was the face I got when I said, "no, Sugar, you're sick and it's too cold outside to go bye bye."

So long nice weather! We will surely miss you. Hurry back!

This Is Why!

This is why mommies don't take showers when babies are awake!

Cause left unsupervised they mistake your undies for necklaces.

"Farm Livin'..."

"... is the life for me!"
(anyone hearing Green Acres?)

Yep, we were finally able to get in the field this year.
Ella was pretty excited for her first combine ride... no, really she was! Grandpa has been hyping it up all year and today it finally happened.
Farm Girls at heart
(Ella's wearing her John Deere shirt from Grandpa and Grandma but it's hard to see in the pictures.)

Ella loved helping Grandpa steer and trying to push all the buttons.

(ignore the bad attempt at taking the picture myself)

Grandpa's little Deere.

Ella absolutely loves LOVES her Grandpa. He just might be her favorite person but don't tell the others.!

We've Got Spirit! Yes We Do!

I-L-L-I-N-I!

Daddy's request was that Ella be an Illinios Cheerleader this year. It was quite fitting too as he went to the game on Halloween and they won! Against Michigan! (If you know our family you totally get this! 2 out of 3 brothers are MI fans.) So we tricked and treated the night before so Daddy could be there.

How Ella Stays Busy...

because she is REALLY busy!

That's our girl, always cooking up something.

Always the helpful child, she must rearrange stuff for Mommy

(Mommy never has it quite right)

She helps Daddy fix important stuff like toilets

Then there's her homework

(this made me a little teary, all too soon she'll head off to school! Seriously, I didn't sign up for this time flies thing!)

She always has to stop to find her belly button... whew! Still there!

Gotta have a snack. She's loving this campfire and graham cracker weather!

(Hey Nanc, I wanna hear you sing the song again!)

Ella might be a busy little bee but she sure is good...most of the time!

Ella's New Trick

Not only is she walking but she is really starting to say a lot too! She doesn't really follow commands to say something but will just repeat something she hears you say. She says around 10-15 words and also does some animal sounds. I can't believe she is so big! Daddy and Mommy are pretty proud of our little Hugsy!

I Think We Wore Him Out!

Mason came to play this morning! While Ella was napping and I was puttering around the house, little Mase was playing. After a bit I noticed that he was really quiet and this is what I found! What a studmuffin! So in effort to be quiet I got on the computer and posted this. He's still sleeping at my feet. Love you little buddy.

Ella's Birthday Part III

Our little princess got a little spoiled on her big day! Just look at all the presents she got. And that isn't even all of them! She just loves them all and has kept quite busy will all her new toys. Poor baby didn't get why Mama kept pulling her away from one toy to open another. She just wanted to play!

This picture is hard to tell but underneath all that hot pink fluff is LOTS of toys and books!

She was tutu cute from behind! She looked like a little puff ball!

She loves her new kitchen she got from Grandpa and Grandma!

She liked the singing cards on her birthday but now she cries when she opens them!

What a fabulous night we had! I had been thinking and planning her big day for nearly a year! It was everything I had hoped for.

Ella's Birthday Part II

Man! I did it backwards again! Sorry folks!

I think she likes it!

It tastes better mushed!

She just picked up the whole thing and tried to fit it in her mouth! She had frosting up her nose at this point!

Daddy gives her a bite and she is hooked!

Ella is ONE!

So I know these posts are super late! Ella turned one on September 12. I was waiting till I collected more shots from her party of the decorations and such but I will just have to post those when I get them. We didn't really have a theme and I tried to get creative and crafty for her birthday by makeing the decorations, invites and her outfit. Her invite photo was posted in my last post below. I took them at my parents' house. My pictures are backwards ... oops!

I'm trying to convince her to try her cupcake

She wasn't so sure about it at first.

Tuesdays Unwrapped

Today I am savoring every moment of being this little girl's mommy. Today I'm playing a little longer and hugging a little tighter. Lately, she's looking more like a toddler and less like a baby. I'm in awe of her as she discovers her world and learns new things. She has so much personality in such a little body. She is growing too fast and my mama-heart can't keep up. But as I listen to her chatter and watch her share her breakfast with me I realize I wouldn't want it any other way. So here's to living in the moment and celebrating each day I have with this sweetheart.

Ella Naomi's Birth Story

This Saturday Ella turns one! I can't believe a year has already passed. Mamas aren't kidding when they say how fast it goes. I am really excited about her birthday even if I am a little sad at how big she is getting. I just love birthdays and Kirk just rolls his eyes at me;)! To kick off her birthday week I thought I'd tell you her birth story.

My due date was September 14th and for 3 weeks I was dilated 3cm and my Dr. was telling me I could go anytime. I was born 4 weeks early so I after hearing this I was sure I was going early. Well, I think my Dr. was trying to get me to agree to induction since she was going to be on vacation right before my due date. She kept mentioning it but was also telling me I was measuring 2 weeks behind and the baby was small. I kept thinking if she's small then leave her in there don't induce me. I was really ready for this baby to come for lots of reasons but one was that for about 4 weeks before delivery I developed carpel tunnel in both hands. It got so bad that my right hand was always numb which made it hard to do things and forced me to stop cutting hair sooner than I wanted to. My Dr. said that it would go away after delivery but it took about 6 weeks later.

So on September 12 I woke up at 2:30 am with contractions. I got up and went to the bathroom and then decided to walk around a bit and time them before I woke Kirk up. I was kind of confused because they were 5 minutes apart but not really painful or hard. I thought that labor would start much slower than this so I wasn't sure if it was real labor or not. I decided that I probably was in labor and even if I wasn't that since I was dilated to 3 before that I should go in and get checked out. About 15 minutes later Kirk came barreling out of the bedroom. He was all concerned when he woke up and I wasn't there. He wanted to know why I didn't wake him but I was actually just going to get him. Here we were both thinking that we'd have some time to shower or whatever before we went in but things were happening fast so we grabbed our stuff and hit the road.

My contractions were staying 5 minutes apart and gaining intensity. By the time I reached the hospital at 4:00 they were 4 minutes apart and pretty intense. They checked me and I was at a 4. Not as far as I hoped. My Dr. came in and broke my water. She had returned from vacation just the day before. With in an hour or so my contractions were less than 30 seconds apart and super intense. I couldn't really distinguish between the end of one and the start of another. During this I had thrown up 4 times which the nurses kept saying meant I was dilating more. But when they checked again I was still at a 4. I had hoped for no meds or epidural but when I heard I was at a 4 I knew that if I was going to be like this for who knows how long till I reached 10 I couldn't do it. So I got an epidural about 8:30ish.

Within 10 mintues I felt great! Kirk was just going to eat a snack. We were chatting with the nurses. Well, that epidural made me relax enough that with in 45 minutes I was at a 10! Kirk didn't get his snack. :) With the epidural I couldn't tell really when to push so I pushed for a long time. Finally, the nurse called the Dr. in and Dr. W said it was taking so long because Ella's head was turned a little. So she turned her head and after a few pushes she was out. She was born at 11:39am. She was 6lbs 10 oz and 18 in long. And of course had a head full of long black hair.

I must have been pretty excited to see Ella because the nurses said they could "hear my joy" down the hall! Kirk was so cute. He was just the proudest daddy you ever saw. As soon as Ella was born he said "she's almost as beautiful as her Mommy" which scored big points with me and the Dr and nurses too. When he cut the cord blood sprayed all over his shirt which the Dr assured him would wash out. He loved it though and proudly wore that shirt all day long.

Little Family Reunion... Of Sorts

Sunday we headed to my mom's home town to say goodbye to my cousin John who leaves for Brazil next week. It was so fun to see my mom's family since we don't get to see them much. Better yet, almost everyone was there too! We had a great time eating, catching up, and of course some cornhole!

The whole group... uncles, aunts, cousins, spouses, kids

Me and the boys. Rich, Carl, Zach, Derric, me, John, Kevin. We are only missing one of our cousins who happens to be the only other girl.

It's Been Far Too Long

Well, dear readers, I've been away too long. Here's what's been happening around here.

Our baby girl turned 11 months old this week! I can't believe that in just a few weeks we'll celebrate her first birthday. I just love birthdays and have been planning hers for a long time. More posts to come on that!

Several of us friends get together 3-4 times a year to make freezer meals. It's always such a fun day and so great to have some meals to pull out and thaw. I am sad I forgot my apron that day.

Uncle Kevin was home to visit!! We all wish he was closer and got to see him more but we sure have fun when he comes home.

Last weekend we went up to the Chicago area to visit our dear friends Jason and Joy.
We both forgot to take pictures but we had a great time talking about ANYthing and EVERYthing, shopping at IKEA, eating, and watching movies. J and J are having a baby in October and so we wanted to get together before the baby came. We had a relaxing weekend away since we left Ella with grandparents. Thanks for the fun guys!
